A good maternity nanny is responsible for helping to support parents and their new baby. Typically speaking most maternity nannies will hold some form of specialist newborn qualification such as an MNT certificate or NEST qualification, some maternity nannies who have been in the business a long time will have no formal qualification just many years extensive newborn experience. In addition to this all will have a current ECRB, and paediatric first aid training. All of our maternity nannies have personal interviews and reference checks. We believe it takes a very special maternity nanny to become a BabyWorks maternity nanny.
A maternity nanny lives-in with the family and generally works for 5/6 days a week. She and is responsible for the following:
Establishing and guiding parents on baby’s routine and helping to establish a regular feeding pattern
Giving parents the support, skills and confidence they need to care for their new baby
Providing a warm and reassuring environment
Breastfeeding support, techniques and guidance
All aspects of newborn care including feeding, washing, dressing and hygiene
Ensuring all areas relating to the baby are clean and tidy at all time. Such as baby’s laundry, feeding equipment (if bottle-feeding), nursery and cot.
Night feeds or if breast-feeding to take baby into mum and then help resettle
Light meals for the mum
