A nanny’s role
A nanny’s role can vary from family to family, however any nanny needs to be stable, self-sufficient and have a responsible personality, flexible approach and the ability to show love and affection to the children in their care. A nanny is responsible for your child’s safety, development and well-being when you are not at home.
The list below is designed to give you a feel for some of the responsibilities that you can expect your nanny to undertake:
- Looking after the children’s health, needs, well-being and safety.
- Cooking well-balanced meals appropriate to the children’s age and needs.
- To communicate regularly with the parents, about the children’s care. We suggest a fortnightly catch-up.
- Be responsible for any expenses such transport, groceries, or activity items such as crayons.
- Ensuring a balanced routine of activities in and out of the home.
- Looking after any areas in the house that relate to the children and ensuring that they are clean and tidy at all times, this would also include their toys and clothes.
- Taking the children on age appropriate trips (as agreed in advance with the parents).
- Ensuring a thorough working knowledge of any baby or children’s equipment such as buggies, car seats etc
- Looking after the children when they are ill, including doctor’s visits.
- Helping with birthday parties
- Taking the children to school, playgroup or any other relevant groups
- If the nanny is live-in ensuring her room is clean and tidy at all times.
